A HistóriaThe Story
Em Chaves, a água sobe da terra a setenta e três graus, e brota assim desde antes da memória. Foi por causa dela que os romanos fundaram Aquae Flaviae no ano 79 e ergueram, sobre o Tâmega, a Ponte de Trajano.
Trezentos quilómetros a sul, em Rio Maior, sobe outra água, sete vezes mais salgada que o mar. O que ferve no Norte cristaliza ao sol do Centro.
Entre as duas terras, duas pedras: granito em Trás-os-Montes, calcário no Ribatejo. Uma sustenta a vinha; a outra, a salina.
Mais tarde, o mesmo Rei D. Dinis fortificou Chaves e recebeu as salinas de Rio Maior, em 1312, sob a Ordem de Cristo. Romanos exploraram as duas terras. D. Dinis administrou as duas terras. A ligação não é metáfora; é registo.
Aquae Salis nasce do granito do Norte. Traz no nome o calcário do Centro. Duas terras, dois Andrés, uma só casa.
In Chaves, water has risen from the ground at seventy-three degrees since before memory. It is why the Romans founded Aquae Flaviae in the year 79, and built Trajan's Bridge over the Tâmega.
Three hundred kilometres south, in Rio Maior, another water rises, seven times saltier than the sea. What boils in the north crystallises in the southern sun.
Between the two lands, two stones: granite in Trás-os-Montes, limestone in Ribatejo. One holds the vine; the other, the saltpan.
Centuries later, the same king, Dinis I, fortified Chaves and received the Rio Maior saltpans in 1312, under the Order of Christ. The Romans explored both lands. Dinis administered both lands. The link is not metaphor; it is record.
Aquae Salis is born from the granite of the north. It carries the limestone of the centre in its name. Two lands, two Andrés, one house.

Pedra Branca
O coração do calcário. Tenso, mineral, vivo de sal. The heart of limestone. Taut, mineral, alive with salt.
Duas Pedras

Pedra Negra
O coração do granito. Profundo, mineral, com a fundura do Norte. The heart of granite. Deep, mineral, with the gravity of the north.
Duas Pedras
Trezentas garrafas numeradas à mão. Cada uma assinada a bronze, individualmente.
Da vinha do granito vem o vinho. Do nome do calcário vem a memória. As duas pedras encontram-se nesta garrafa.

Os Dois AndrésThe Two Andrés
Um do Norte, outro do Centro. Os dois com o mesmo nome próprio. Um traz no nome uma pedra: Xisto, do calcário do Ribatejo.
Aquae Salis é o que nasce quando duas terras se encontram a meio do país, num gesto que ambos quiseram fazer.
One from the north, one from the centre. Both carrying the same first name. One with a stone in his: Xisto, from the limestone of Ribatejo.
Aquae Salis is what is born when two lands meet halfway, in a gesture that both wanted to make.
